The Marathon
Arjun, a student of a reputed management college, shared good friendly relation with his professor  Srinivasan. Being fitness freaks, both of them enjoyed long runs and some exercises every day. They never missed any marathon in their city. This went on for few years.

The day came, when Arjun finished his course and was to leave the institute and the city. On his Graduation Day,  Srinivasan tells Arjun that though his life will be very busy and hectic, he should continue his running, exercise regime and taking part in marathons.

Arjun left the city, got a good job, got married and settled in his  life. Running and exercise were soon forgotten due to hectic schedules and lack of time. Lack of exercise made his mind and body lethargic. On the other hand, Srinivasan, continued with his older routine. He increased the miles he used to run.

After many years, the management college organized the reunion of the alumni. Arjun took this opportunity to take a break from his busy life. Meeting Srinivasan after so many years sounded more exciting to him than the reunion. After the party, Srinivasan invited Arjun for lunch next day. He insisted that Arjun come early so that they can sit and talk. They decided on nine am in the morning.

Next day, when Arjun arrived at Srinivasan’s place, he found Srinivasan dressed up in his track suit with running shoes. Arjun is surprised to see his enthusiasm. They go for a run. But soon Arjun is out of breath. Then, they switch to walking.  Srinivasan tells Arjun that he is very disturbed to see Arjun’s health and his lack of stamina. Arjun tells him about his daily routine and busy life. But he marvels on Srinivasan’s stamina and fit body. Srinivasan informs him that he has continued with his running and marathons. This reminds Arjun that he has not taken part in any marathon after leaving the college.

Srinivasan motivates Arjun to try and run for some distance. But after some time, they again switch to walking. They return to Srinivasan’s place around one o’clock in the afternoon. Srinivasan’s wife is very miffed at him and complaints that he has always neglected her for his love for running.

After lunch, Arjun helps Srinivasan’s wife to clear dining table. When they come back with coffee, they find Srinivasan sleeping on the rocking chair with content and peace.
